MIU MIU SPRING/SUMMER 2013

The reveal of Miu Miu’s SS13 collection very much had an office like feel to it with a wooden catwalk featuring multiple stairs and oversized suits. The models’ tailored jackets and skirts in black, white, grey and bursts of red appeared to be slightly too big for them; giving a mature yet young feel to the collection.

Accessories included practical handbags, smart leather gloves, flat sandals and pointed high heels with a range of fur - either draped over the shoulder or worn as a coat. The clothing showcased was simple yet elegant with block colours and a tie-dye inspired print featuring throughout.

VALENTINO SPRING/SUMMER 2013

Valentino’s collection for 2013 was a vision of femininity. The dresses were simple yet elegant in shades of nude, pale pink, black, white and splashes of red. Panelled skirts lined with lace revealing the skin underneath remained chic and refined. Sheer chiffon dresses floated delicately down the catwalk like a dream, along with sweet tea dresses with pretty puffed sleeves.

A number of pieces were Victorian inspired with lace collars and frilled bibs; yet a modern twist had been introduced with clear, black and scarlet macs. Floor length, slim line dresses were carefully embroidered in beading, highlighting the sheer class and sophistication of the collection.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SPRING/SUMMER 2013

Alexander McQueen proved to be queen bee with their spring/summer 2013 collection. There was honeycomb inspired mesh material used for beekeeper style hats, trousers and shoes, along with the distinctive hexagonal honeycomb print for tailored jackets synched in at the waist with a thick, gold and amber belt – accentuating the female silhouette. This was then reinforced with feminine corseted and crinoline gowns in red, black and you guessed it, honey tones.

Also to feature in the collection were dresses covered in flowers; tying in the idea of bees and spring. The garments had also been teamed with glistening golden and amber necklaces and cuff bracelets resembling glutinous honey. The overall collection is stunningly unique and brings a new meaning to spring/summer 2013. We can’t wait!

CHANEL SPRING/SUMMER 2013

For the reveal of Chanel’s SS13 collection, the catwalk was lined with wind turbines to symbolise ease and tranquillity. Chanel had been stripped of any complexity within the designs and opted for a simple, classic look. The collection consisted of black column dresses embroidered with oversized pearls; representative of the timeless Chanel look. Then later shown in white, bringing a modern aspect to the collection.

Bolder colours were soon introduced in tweed and a design inspired by the solar panels on the catwalk for dresses, A line skirts and volumized, cropped jackets; all teamed with oversized pearl necklaces and bracelets – indicating key trends for Spring/Summer 2013!

LOUIS VUITTON SPRING/SUMMER 2013

When Louis Vuitton showcased his collection for Spring/Summer 2013, we were transformed back to the swinging sixties! The show featured escalators where the models descended onto the catwalk to reveal the clothing range consisting of checkered dresses, jackets, trousers and skirts in black, brown, yellow and green as the key colour components.

Teamed with cute pointed kitten heels and beehive up-do’s, the overall sixties inspired vibe really brought the collection to life - making a true statement for Spring/Summer 2013. As the show progressed oversized flower motifs appeared, highlighting an element of elegance and simplicity to the collection.

H&M have collaborated with designer Maison Martin Margiela to produce a fabulous and quirky collection for Autumn/Winter 2012. If you’re looking for comfortable clothing that’s bang on trend then you’re in luck! The collection consists of over 100 eccentric pieces with headlining features such as oversized, draping garments and creative accessories you won’t find anywhere else.

We think the range of oversized turtle neck jumpers are a must have this season; as well as the tailored jackets and trousers which bring a masculine edge to the collection. If you’re feeling a little more daring then there are plenty of statement pieces on offer including the enlarged key ring necklace, hair lock necklace, watch belt, shoes with clear perspex heels and ‘fusion’ garments made up of two different styles of clothing fused into one...

MILAN FASHION WEEK

So from London to Milan!
We particulary loved Missoni's offering, which included a vibrant and mouth-watering colour palette. Missoni's trademark of using pattern and knitwear was also very much present with knitted lace, and a playful see-through polka dot dress had to be one of our very favourite creations. Sport swimwear was also a feature, with lots of layering, and geometry and bright coral lips tying the collection together.

Dolce & Gabanna's collection was also a hit, taking us back to one half of the duo's Sicillian background, showcasing some of the creative inspiration rooted in their design's. Traditional artistry, structured skirts and Sicillian stripes were revived in the collection.

Keep posted for Paris collections! Ciao for now...

LONDON FASHION WEEK

Photo: Fashion2012.co.uk

Was it just us or was London Fashion Week absolutely fabulous? There is definitely the pride of being British in the air following the incredible Olympics and Paralympics, and what a way to follow!
The show was full of British character, effortless style, eccentricity and sense of humour- not pompous or too serious. Here are some of our favourite collections from the inspiring show...

Mulberry were a delight, with pretty pastels and detailing. The prints were primarily floral, conjuring nostalgic imagery of summery picnics in blooming fields. There was a distinct 60s feel, also portrayed in the hair and makeup. Could this be a major trend for the spring/summer? We think so! And check out the impressive front row below- (left to right) Vanessa Kirby, Lana Del Rey, (yes! New 'do!) Kate Moss (never ages), Alexa Chung (of course!) and Rebecca Hall.

Another of our favourite collections had to be from Osman, with his colourful and vibrant East meets West take. With Japanese inspired silhouettes and fabrics, his fast-becoming-signature well cut trousers were also in full swing, with the catwalk and model's necks and wrists accessorised with a form of Japanese bondage (shibari)..ooer! And even better- we can claim a bit of homegrown glory, as an Indian haberdashery in Birmingham where his mum is based also helped provide inspiration for his collection.

Once again, Mary Katrantzou does not disappoint, with another collection of her signature graphic prints style reinvented and literally on the money, with the collection inspired by stamps and bank notes from all over the world including India; perhaps a nod to the change and rise of emerging luxury markets.

Photo: Vladimir Potopv via Telegraph
The collection on a whole had a high fashion, exquisite and futuristic feel, which we think gives Mary another huge thumbs up for her SS13 collection. Love!

Louise Gray produced another bold and eye-catching collection, with quirky makeup and an altered colour palette to spice things up. Sequins and embroidery were still a huge part of the collection, but it had a far more grown up and polished feel. With form-fitting sillhouettes, cute footwear, accessories and excellent layering, the collection was fun- exactly what we'd expect from Ms Gray!

So what were your favourites? Keep it here for further fashion week updates!  Over and out...

LOUIS VUITTON TO COLLABORATE WITH YAYOI KUSAMA

Yayoi Kusama. Photo: via http://binzentovincente.blogspot.co.uk
At 83 years old, Yayoi Kusama has been considerably overlooked over the years. The quirky avant garde Japanese artist who has voluntarily made a psychiatric hospital her home for a number of years, is renowned for her almost obsessive use of polka dots in her work.
Kusama is a fascinating lady, well known for her eccentric nature, style, vision and love of brightly coloured wigs. So when Louis Vuitton anounced the collaboration with the artist after Marc Jacobs paid her a visit, we were intrigued.

Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton. Photo: creativeboysclub.com
The collaboration will be released tomorrow (10th July) in Louis Vuitton stores, and will also be available from a pop-up store in Selfridges London in August. The collaboration consists of Kusama-created patterns and polka dots on wallets, bags, scarves, clothing and beach wear.

And it looks as though Jacobs has big things planned for the collaboration. The collaboration is said to showcased around the globe in specially designed pop-up shops....

Exciting stuff! We can't wait to see what else there is in store...
